About SubLocal

SubLocal is an offline subtitle generation app. It transcribes audio from your videos and audio files into text subtitles, entirely on your device. No account is required.

On-Device Processing

All audio and video processing happens locally on your device. SubLocal uses on-device AI models (Sherpa-ONNX SenseVoice and NVIDIA NeMo Parakeet) to perform speech recognition. No audio, video, text, or any other data is transmitted to any server.

Internet Usage

SubLocal uses the internet only to download AI language models when you choose to use them for the first time. Once a model is downloaded, the app works fully offline. No data is sent to any server during model downloads.

Permissions

SubLocal requests the following permissions:

• Photos / Media Files — To read video and audio files that you select for subtitle generation. SubLocal only accesses files you explicitly choose.
• Internet — To download AI language models. This is the only use of network access.

SubLocal does not request access to:

• Camera
• Microphone
• Location
• Contacts
• Any other sensitive data

Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. SubLocal does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Personal identity information (no account, no email, no name)
• Device identifiers
• Location data
• Usage analytics
• Crash reports
• Any other user data

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only and never leaves your device:

• Generated subtitle files — Stored in the app's local storage for your history view.
• AI model files — Downloaded and cached locally for offline use.
• App preferences — Your language and model selection.

All local data is removed when you uninstall the app.

Third-Party Services

SubLocal does not use any third-party services. Specifically:

• No advertising SDKs
• No analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase)
• No social login or sharing SDKs
• No crash reporting services (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry)
• No data brokers

The AI models bundled with or downloadable in SubLocal are open-source: Sherpa-ONNX SenseVoice (Apache 2.0) and NVIDIA NeMo Parakeet (CC-BY-4.0). These models run entirely on your device.

Children's Privacy

SubLocal is not specifically directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Since we do not collect any data from anyone, our app is safe for users of all ages.

Data Retention

We do not retain any user data on our servers because we never collect any. All data generated by the app (subtitles, preferences) exists only on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Your Rights

Since SubLocal does not collect, store, or process any personal data on external servers:

• There is no data to access, correct, or delete from our systems.
• To remove all data, simply uninstall the app from your device.
• If you have shared exported subtitle files (SRT) with others via the share function, those shared copies are outside our control.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
